Double-space after period

Formatting rules are that after a full stop there should be a double-space before the next sentence begins.
It's not possible to type a double-space simply within the editor. Instead, I have to type space, arrow key back, type another space, arrow key forward x 2, begin the sentence.
Any chance you could enable double-space for when we hit the spacebar twice?
